Introduction To Christian Liturgy
Liturgy means “the work of the people.” Generally, the term is applied to the Eucharist, i.e. the Mass, but as a broader term, liturgy also means any action of the people in prayer. So, not only is the Mass a liturgy, but so are the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, Reconciliation, Holy Orders and the Anointing of the Sick. Since we have the unique opportunity as priests to fashion our own liturgical celebrations, this material is invaluable. As priests and ministers, we owe it to the people we serve to celebrate the best liturgies possible. We are responsible for developing liturgies that are meaningful, relevant, living, and inclusive. This is the beginning of sacramental understanding.
